Jubilee receives 5* food hygiene rating
On Monday we were visited for a routine inspection from a Local Authority Inspector for food standards. We are delighted to announce that we received the highest possible rating from the Food Standards Agency for food hygiene of 5.
We would like to congratulate and thank Dawn Fisher, our resident cook, and her team for upholding the highest of standards and for producing fabulous menus for our children every day.
Winter Wonderland Magic comes to Jubilee
On Friday 18th December, the children, parents, grandparents and siblings of Jubilee Day Nursery and Jubilee Gems (our term-time nursery) joined together for our magical Winter Wonderland Walk. Over 450 children and their families soaked up the festive atmosphere, on a walk of approximately half a mile, which took them through Jubilee’s farm to our private woodland which the children know so well.
Trees were twinkling with fairy lights, children’s artwork decorated the woodland and down a winding pathway, adorned with fairy lights, sat a magical cabin with a very special visitor from Lapland – Father Christmas. Mrs Christmas also joined him in her own pretty cottage and 300 children were incredibly excited to meet them, each receiving a special gift to take home. Other entertainment included Nursery staff carol singing, the nativity scene, Santa’s workshop with festive crafts including wooden reindeer and reindeer food for Christmas Eve, an abundance of singing, dancing Christmas toys and face painting.
This was our fifth annual Winter Wonderland Walk and each year it gets bigger and better. During the year, the children love their regular visits to the woods and so, turning it in to a magical kingdom for Christmas is the perfect surprise for them. The effort staff go to in making it truly special is testament to their dedication to the children’s happiness”
The event also supported Cancer Reasearch UK and over £500 was raised, with kind donations made by parents and nursery staff.
Nursery parent, Charlotte Watchorn said “It was our first winter wonderland walk and we were overwhelmed with the amount of effort staff had put into it. It was a great start to Christmas!”
Jubilee ‘wears it pink’ for breast cancer awareness
Children and staff at Jubilee didn’t hold back in raising money and ‘wearing it pink’ today. Parents, children and staff all threw themselves into the challenge to donate funds and win prizes for the most creative wearer of pink!
Lesley, Nursery Manager said, “This was a great way for the Jubilee family to come together and have lots of fun whilst raising money for this important cause. We had an array of fabulously stylish and very silly outfits on display which the children loved!”
Nursery dons denim for charity
Children and staff at Jubilee Day Nursery and Jubilee Gems in Padworth pulled on their best jeans for a fundraising day on Friday 18 September for genetic disorders in the UK. A scarecrow made by children and staff, which was exhibited in the Education Tent at the Royal Berkshire Show and parents, staff and children were presented with the challenge of filling the scarecrow’s legs with change for charity. Over £100 was donated which contributes to nearly £2,500 raised since the beginning of the year by Jubilee for a number of charities.
Lesley Thompson, Senior Nursery Manager said, “We all inherit a range of talents, skills and personality traits through our genes – they’re part of what makes us who we are. But 1 in 25 children also inherit a genetic disorder that makes their life very difficult. This is a positive and fun opportunity for our children at Jubilee to start to understand and accept the differences that make us all unique and do something to help fund the vital care and support services that transform lives.”
Our little learners celebrate their success
Children due to leave us to start primary school in September took part in their very own Graduation ceremony this Saturday. Each child was dressed in cap and gown which were all hand-sewn by dedicated staff.
An emotional day - filled with laughter, fun and a few tears – 59 children from our Pre-School class ‘Treetops’ collected certificates and said goodbye to friends in a special outdoor ceremony in front of nearly 500 proud parents, grandparents and siblings and children from our term time only nursery, Jubilee Gems. The family fun day with a host of activities on offer included a hog roast, face painting, a coconut shy, giant sand pit and bouncy castle raised £200.00 for Breast Cancer Campaign.
Lesley Thompson, our nursery manager said “Most of the children who graduated have been in our care since they were just a few months old and over the years, they have had so many wonderful adventures with us. We will miss them all terribly. They have been great company to be with and we wish them lots of happiness in the future.”
Comic Relief: Red Nose Day 2015
On Thursday and Friday last week, Jubilee Day Nursery held a cake sale and auction in aid of Comic Relief’s Red Nose Day.
Members of staff chose a nose style to bake for what we hoped would be our most successful cake auction yet. We held the cake and biscuit sale on Thursday 12th and Friday 13th March, with everyone wearing their red noses and red clothes on that Friday.
Small cakes and biscuits were sold for the charity and our auction took place on our Facebook account. The sold and auctioned cakes looked amazing and there was plenty of interest. In the end they raised £100 and together with other donations, Jubilee were able to raise £600.
Everyone who bought and bid on the cakes agreed that they were delicious! So thank you everyone who contributed.
Gold for Apprentice
Highest accolade for Jubilee Day Nursery Apprentice – bestowed by Newbury College and Thames Valley Chamber of Commerce.
On Tuesday 10th March we attended Newbury College for the Apprentice Awards evening. Jubilee Day Nursery was represented by Emily Amyes-Terry who had been asked to speak on behalf of apprentices at Newbury College.
Emily had been nominated for an award by Newbury College. She was well supported on the night by her family and employers.
Emily has been an apprentice at Jubilee Day Nursery for 3 years and has worked extremely hard both in college and at work to complete her NVQ Level 2 and Level 3.
We were all delighted when Emily received The Peter Atkinson ‘Gold Award’ for Outstanding Achievement.
To celebrate, all the children and staff from the nursery gathered in Treetops to surprise Emily with a party when she arrived to work this morning.
Lesley Thompson, Nursery Manager, said “The nursery are extremely proud of Emily’s achievements. Emily won Employee of the Year at Jubilee Day Nursery in December 2014 and it’s nice to see that the dedication she has shown in work, was further reflected and recognised by Newbury College.”
Nothing reinforces the creative spirit and nourishes a child's soul more than providing time to engage in spontaneous, self-directed play. Play is the serious business of young children and to do so freely is vital to healthy development.
